Holley Blue is rare because access to the collection site has been prohibited since the mid 90's. 
It's called Holley Blue after the nearby town (near Sweethome OR) and blue because the first pieces found had faded over time.  Once people started to dig out this gem quality silica,  its lavender and purple shades caught the attention of many jewelry designers.
