Big News from the Oregon Outback: Announcing Our New SunGem 3 & SunGem 4 Claims
There’s something magical about the Oregon Outback—wide-open skies, ancient volcanic fields, and the thrill of discovering treasures hidden beneath the sagebrush. Today, I’m excited to share one of the biggest milestones in RoseGemShop’s journey:We’ve officially purchased two Oregon Sunstone mining claims in the Rabbit Basin region—SunGem 3 and SunGem 4.
Together, these claims account for nearly 40 acres of mineral rights, giving us one of the most promising new footprints in the entire Plush Sunstone district.
And to make this even more meaningful, the claims were purchased from the King family—one of the oldest, most established, and most respected families in the Oregon Sunstone mining world. Their history in the region dates back decades, and passing the torch to us is both an honor and a responsibility we take seriously.
Located in the Golden Triangle of Oregon Sunstone
SunGem 3 and SunGem 4 sit squarely inside what longtime miners call the Golden Triangle of Oregon Sunstone—a concentrated zone of historically high-producing ground bordered by:
Double Eagle just to the east
The world-famous Spectrum Mine to the north
The iconic Dust Devil mines to the south
This tight geographic triangle has produced some of the most breathtaking Oregon Sunstones ever found: fiery reds, deep greens, bicolors, copper schiller, champagne tones, and everything in between.
To have nearly 40 acres inside this cluster is rare.
To inherit land directly from the King family is even rarer.
Surveying Begins as Soon as Weather Allows
As soon as spring returns to Rabbit Basin and the roads become passable, we’ll be heading out for full, detailed surveys of both SunGem 3 and SunGem 4. These maps will establish exact boundaries, identify safe access paths, and help us determine where our first exploratory pits will begin.
Winter snow and blowing dust can delay things out there, but once the ground clears, we’ll be moving quickly.
Test Excavations Planned for May 2026
If weather stays on schedule, test excavations will begin around May 2026. These early digs will give us essential insight into:
Sunstone-bearing basalt flows
Depth and consistency of gem-producing layers
Color distribution across the claims
Mineral transition zones
Long-term mining viability
This stage is where science meets excitement—the moment when we first begin to see what the earth has been hiding for millions of years.
Expect the First SunGem Stones in Summer 2026
Once we’ve mapped the productive layers and established dig zones, the first stones from these claims should begin flowing sometime in Summer 2026.
These gems will be:
✨ 100% miner-direct
✨ From our own claims
✨ Fully traceable from ground to jewelry
✨ Cut, polished, and set right here in Oregon
Every piece will carry the story of the Outback, the history of the King family, and the future direction of RoseGemShop.
What This Means for RoseGemShop Customers
Owning these claims allows us to offer something incredibly rare in the jewelry world:
Complete end-to-end control of the mining and production process.
From the moment a Sunstone is unearthed at SunGem 3 or SunGem 4 to the moment it becomes a pendant, ring, or collector’s stone, we oversee every step. No middlemen. No uncertainty. Just authentic, ethically sourced, traceable Oregon Sunstone.
For collectors, this means unparalleled transparency.
For jewelers, it means a reliable supply of fresh, high-quality material.
For fans of Oregon gemstones, it means more variety, more color, and more stories directly from the source.
