Oregon Sunstone, the official state gemstone, is a great choice when you're looking for an unusual gem that catches the eye. Flashes of copper glisten and shine, and the warm color will have you thinking of the hot sun in August out in Eastern Oregon where this gemstone is mined.
This stone is fairly large at 9.2mm and weighs 3.6ct.
Amazing Watermellon Oregon Sunstone 2.63ct
Take a look at the depth of color on this gorgeous Oregon Sunstone. If you like greens, teals, and deep burgundy red, this is the one for you. Also note the slight copper schiller streaking across the front. Truly, this is a work of nature's beauty.
The rough from this stone comes from the Sunstone Butte area of the rabbit basin in Eastern Oregon. Some of the most beautiful colored Oregon Sunstone in the world come from this mine. It's easy to see why jewelry designers are often so drawn to this material.
This stone weighs 2.63ct and is 10x7mm. Perfect size for a ring or a pendant. I could see this being set with other stones like garnet or dark green tourmaline to accent the colors.
Retail on a stone like this can be upwards of $500/ct, but you get a great deal from me at wholesale price.
Bicolor concave cut 3.85ct Oregon Sunstone
This stone originated at the Sunstone Butte mine.
This higher elevation mine (about 15 miles from the Sunstone Collection area) has an abundance of darker colored greens and bicolor Oregon Sunstones.
This one is cut in a rectangle with concave cuts on the sides to give it extra refraction. Photos just don't do this stone justice.
The stone weighs 3.85ct and measures 7.8x12mm.
Dark pink AAA schiller Oregon Sunstone 1.02ct
Here's a nice little Oregon Sunstone with some fantastic color and copper schiller.
Oregon Sunstone is such a fun material because no two stones are ever 100% alike. This one has that AAA copper schiller, and the color is a nice dark pink, a little less orange than some. The color is almost what I'd call a Padparadscha pink.
There are many legends around Oregon Sunstone and Sunstone in general. The Northern Piute legend is that a great warrior fell wounded by an enemies arrow. The warriors blood carried his spirit into the stones, staining them red and giving them sacred power.
The Norse were known to have used calcite to be able to determine the location of the sun on overcast days, but this is different from the silicate feldspar we know as Sunstone today.
While there are other feldspar materials known as Sunstone, Oregon Sunstone is the only one with the unique copper inclusions.
This particular gem weighs 1.02ct and measures 6mm. It's cut into a cute cushion design that would work well in a ring or a small pendant.
Golden schiller 1.9ct Oregon Sunstone trillion
People sometimes scoff at the idea of a champagne colored Oregon Sunstone. They're much more common than the pinks, reds, or greens, but sometimes they can be just as beautiful.
The fact that they're more common also means a very affordable price.
This 1.9ct Oregon Sunstone trillion is champagne in color with a little bit of copper schiller to add some extra sparkle. In the sun, you'll see shades of pink and green in it as well as that golden champagne color.
